British tabloid the Daily Mail faced criticism over tracking an individual in Detroit after wrongly identifying her as White Stripes drummer Meg White. The newspaper shadowed and photographed someone else entirely while searching for the private artist. A number of publications reported on the embarrassing mix-up. The Guardian, Consequence of Sound, The New European and VICE all covered the misstep. VICE termed the mix-up a significant mess while looking for the 2000s-era star. The tabloid aimed to shed light on the artist's private lifestyle yet ended up pursuing an entirely separate Detroit resident.
