Stargazers can now spot the opening Perseid meteors ahead of the primary display. The display peaks in the heart of August next year. First glimpses will be tricky, however. The bright moon now washes out subtle flashes. Go for darker hours near the core. The best views come from dark sky spots off the beaten path. Clear nights could show up to a hundred meteors hourly at the most intense stretch.
