A federal appeals court extended Temporary Protected Status protections for Haitians just in time to this Sunday. A separate ruling from another court shocked observers by changing the Haiti TPS expiration date to Monday. Rep. Carlos Gimenez from Florida made his position clear. He voiced support for the delay. That support matters because health staff in Florida stand to lose jobs without a decision. On another front State Department spokespeople repeatedly stated Haiti remains too volatile for safe repatriation right now.
